McDowell ARH holds Fitness Fair at South Floyd Middle School
McDowell ARH Hospital staff held its first Fitness Fair at South Floyd Middle School in December.
Students participated in a series of strength and endurance exercises including sit ups (as shown in the photo), sit and reach, push-up and a timed one-mile walk. Health checks for height and weight (for calculating BMIs) and grip testing were conducted.
Students were given cards to write one health-related goal they planned to achieve within six months when McDowell ARH staff returns for a second Fitness Fair.
McDowell ARH organized the Fitness Fair in response to a 2013 Community Needs Assessment Survey that listed concerns about childhood obesity. Around 300 students participated in the Fitness Fair.
