Second Annual Paint the Mall PINK! to Kick Off October 1
With October being National Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Middlesboro Mall, Middlesboro ARH Hospital and Air Evac Lifeteam are sponsoring a community-wide breast cancer awareness campaign which will kick off October 1 at 6 p.m. at Middlesboro Mall’s Center Court. The public is invited.
“Middlesboro ARH is proud to be a sponsor of this second annual community-wide breast cancer awareness campaign,” said Elaine L. Smith, Middlesboro ARH Community and Patient Advocate and committee member of Paint the Mall PINK! “Last year we raised $1,821 for breast cancer research and education, and we hope to raise even more this year.”
According to Smith, every October Middlesboro ARH “Gets their pink on” by hosting a special tree lighting ceremony and balloon release for community breast cancer survivors. This year’s tree lighting is scheduled for October 6 with registration beginning at 5:30 p.m. On October 13, a Think Pink event is planned for staff and hospital visitors to promote breast cancer awareness. This year on October 16, Middlesboro ARH will be an organizer of The Pink Tie Masquerade Ball (charity fundraiser) to be held at Pine Mountain State Resort Park.
“Around 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in the United States this year,” stated Meredith Eades, APRN and Certified Nurse-Midwife at Middlesboro ARH Women’s Health Center.“That is why it is essential that women who are 40 or older have annual mammograms. Early detection can save lives.”
During the October 1 Paint the Mall PINK! event, Middlesboro ARH staff will educate ladies on the importance of regular breast cancer screenings; and for those ladies who do not have insurance coverage for mammograms or have high insurance deductibles, during the month of October, Middlesboro ARH is offering a special rate of $50 for a mammogram screening, which includes the radiologist report. Information will be distributed at the Paint the Mall PINK! event.
Middlesboro ARH Hospital gladly joins the Air Evac Lifeteam and the Middlesboro Mall in kicking off the second annual community-wide breast cancer awareness campaign—Paint the Mall PINK! on October 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
