ABOUT US
Services are provided on the units in the Psychiatric Center in accordance with the ARH's contract with the Kentucky Department of Mental Health. Only inpatient and observation services are provided. The Psychiatric Center operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

The Psychiatric Center is the designated State acute mental health facility for a 21-county region. Care is provided to adult (age 18 and older) and geriatric patients only. The Psychiatric Center has three nursing units: Dual Diagnosis Unit, General Unit, and Rehabilitation Unit. The Psychiatric Center is a distinct and separate part of the Medical Center.

Leadership for the Psychiatric Center is provided by the Executive Director of the Psychiatric Center, supported by the Director of Nursing and Chief of Psychiatry. The Executive Director of the Psychiatric Center reports to the Community CEO.

Dual Diagnosis Unit
Patients with both psychiatric diagnosis and substance abuse diagnosis are treated on this Unit. This Unit has 24 beds with the average daily census of 19. The active treatment is multidisciplinary, utilizing Social Services, Psychiatry, Psychology and Activity Therapy for individual and group treatment modalities. Targeted average length of stay is 9 -12 days.

General Unit
The major diagnoses on this unit are psychiatric in nature. The most frequent diagnoses are affective disorders (depression and bipolar disorder). This unit has 52 beds with an average daily census of 42. Active treatment is focused to the individualized needs of the population served. Key focus is on stabilization of the patients' symptoms and problems related to their diagnosis. The unit has a length of stay of 8 - 10 days.

Rehabilitation Unit
The major diagnosis on this unit is chronic schizophrenia. This unit has 24 beds with an average daily census of 22. Active treatment is focused on stabilization and restoration of skills necessary for return to the community. The unit has a moderate to extended length of stay of 12 - 16 days. Patients on this unit generally have serious placement problems.
