Licensed physical therapists, licensed speech / language therapist, licensed physical therapy assistants and physical therapy aides staff the Physical and Speech Therapy Department at the Whitesburg ARH Hospital. Physical and Speech Therapy helps people return to maximum physical function, improve their mobility, and achieve a greater degree of independence. Some of the services provided by our Physical, and Speech Therapist include:
- Performing tests and evaluations of joint mobility, muscle strength, sensation, functional ability, developmental milestones, cognition, functional activity tolerance and cardiovascular functioning.
- Setting short and long-term goals for their patients.
- Assessing the patient's need for assistive devices to facilitate independence with activities of daily living as well as reinforcing safety.
- Designing individualized treatment plans which may involve therapeutic exercises, endurance training, gait training, training in activities of daily living, massage/soft tissue manipulation, applications of heat and cold, hydrotherapy/wound care, electrical stimulation, traction and more.
- Treatment plans for pediatrics may include therapeutic activities focusing on gross motor skills, fine motor coordination and oral motor/feeding skills.
- Educating patients and their families in safe and effective implementation of prescribed treatment plans.
- Conducting various screenings
- Providing prevention programs to community and work-site groups
- Providing cardiac rehabilitation.
- Sensory Integration Therapy focusing on pediatrics.
- SPEECH: Articulation / oral motor disorders.
- LANGUAGE: Childhood language disorder, Aphasia, Cognitive Disorders.
- VOICE: Voice disorders , Laryngectomy, Tracheostomy.
- FLUENCY: Stuttering.
- SWALLOWING: Vital Stim Therapy

The Whitesburg ARH Rehabilitation Services department provides comprehensive physical and Speech therapies for both hospitalized patients and outpatients.
The goal of Rehabilitation Services is to promote the highest level of functional mobility, activity and communication while teaching the participant and those closest to him or her the methods used to work toward restoration. Our services are provided to patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly. All rehabilitation is specifically tailored to the individual needs of participants. Our staff will work closely with your medical provider to develop a treatment plan that will help you return to a level of functioning ability that you enjoyed before your illness or injury.
