Because of the special role that women play in everyone's lives, the Whitesburg ARH Hospital strives to offer special care to women of all ages. Highly skilled Physicians are on duty around the clock and work closely with the community's broad range of specialists and sub-specialists. Listed are a few of the services available:

Birthing Services/Obstetrics

Whitesburg ARH Hospital provides quality maternity care that is unsurpassed. The well-trained staff will assist you during labor, birthing and postpartum recovery. Whitesburg ARH encourages a rooming in concept. Your baby will be allowed to stay in your room as long as you desire.

    Visiting Hours for family and friends are between the hours of 10:00 am - 8:00 pm
    Newborn Nursery will care for your baby when he or she is not in the room with you.
Gynecological Surgery Procedures
  • Treatment for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding to relieve heavy abnormal menstrual periods.
  • Endometrial Ablation is the removal or destruction of the lining of the uterus by cauterization.
  • D & C is the removal of the uterine lining using a curette.
  • Laparascopic Surgery refers to an operative procedure performed using a minimally invasive surgical technique. Visualization is achieved using a fiber optic instrument.
  • Tubal Ligation is a surgical procedure for the prevention of pregnancy.
  • Total/Complete Hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus and cervix.
  • Partial Hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus but the cervix is left in place.
  • Treatment for Ovarian Cysts for patients who suffer from cysts and cystic diseases of the ovary.
  • Breast Biopsy is a procedure that involves taking a sample of tissue from the suspicious area to determine whether the breast lump is cancerous.
  • C-Sections are sometimes necessary when a delivery encounters complications
  • Bladder Surgery can be performed open burch or laproscopic for women who are having difficulty with bladder control.

Radiology Procedures

  • Mammograms are x-rays of breast tissue looking for masses, calcifications, cancer or other tissue abnormalities
  • Breast and Transvaginal Ultrasound procedures are noninvasive ultrasounds that examine the female organs.
  • Bone Densitometry is an x-ray which evaluates bone mass. Bone mass determination helps physicians determine stages of osteoporosis.

Annual Exams

  • Wellness Exam are exams, which are geared to promote and maintain good health for women of all ages.
  • Hormone Replacement Therapy is one treatment option available for women exhibiting symptoms related to menopause.
  • Thin Layer Pap Smear is a significantly more effective test that the conventional Pap smear. Clinical studies have shown that the Thin Layer Pap increased the early detection of precancerous cells.
  • Breast Exams should be performed monthly at home but also checked annually by your healthcare provider
  • Birth Control & Family Planning options can be discussed to identify individual needs
  • Menstral Cycle Disorders can affect some women. Individual issues will need to be discussed with your healthcare provider
  • Sexually Transmitted Disease Screening and Treatment will be provided. Counseling and preventative measure discussion can also be provided.
