LABORATORY SERVICES
606-573-8160

Harlan ARH Hospital's comprehensive laboratory is dedicated to the detection and monitoring of disease. The mission of ARH is evident with the fact that adequate money is available to our Laboratory to always keep the best equipment available to provide quality healthcare to our community. We are very proud of our new state-of-the-art Liquid-Based Thin Layer Pap Smear procedure for the women of our community. Harlan ARH Laboratory is the only provider of this test in Southeastern Kentucky. We work around-the-clock, seven days a week testing, evaluating, and reporting results that help provide answers for your better health.

  • Phlebotomy is the collection of blood from the patient.
  • Electrocardiogram is the monitoring of your heart through electrical impulses (ECG/EKG).
  • Outpatient Testing and collection is available at the on campus hospital lab and the Physician Office Building laboratory located next to the Hospital.
  • Blood Bank stores life-saving blood and blood products for use when it's needed. Testing is performed to determine blood types (ABO/RH) and the presence of antibodies.
  • Clinical Chemistry analyzes blood and body fluids for components such as glucose or cholesterol to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of your condition and to monitor individualized care.
  • Coagulation is the evaluation of the process of clot formation.
  • Hematology includes the evaluation of blood cells and the clotting ability of blood.
  • Serology is the evaluation of blood to detect Pregnancy, Strep Infection, H.Pylori (Stomach ulcers) and Mononucleosis.
  • Histopathology examines specimens and tissues removed during surgery to determine the absence or presence and nature of disease.
  • Cytology is the screening of gynecological (vaginal, cervical pap smears) and non-gynecological (sputum, urine) specimens for the detection of pre-malignant and malignant conditions.
  • Urinalysis involves the chemical and microscopic analysis of urine for diagnostic purposes.
  • Laboratory Outreach is available for participating staff physicians and local employers.

A physicians order is required for all services. Please stop at the registration desk before going to the laboratory. For more information about Laboratory Services at Harlan ARH Hospital, call 606-573-8160.
