Welcome to Harlan ARH Hospital
About Us
Harlan ARH Hospital is a state-licensed, 150-bed,
acute-care facility. We continue to build upon our 40-year reputation as a regional
healthcare center providing specialty medical services and community-based care.
Our goal
Harlan ARH Hospital will be a premier, integrated, consumer-focused and community-based
healthcare provider. We shall enhance the quality of life for the people we serve through
the operation of a seamless local healthcare network.
Where are we?
Harlan County is located in the mountains of southeastern Kentucky, the state's richest
bituminous coal field. The majority of the county lies between two major mountain ridges,
Pine Mountain to the north and Cumberland Mountain to the south. Atop Cumberland Mountain,
Harlan County shares a border with Lee County, Virginia. In between these two long
mountain ridges lie the three spurs of Black Mountain, one of which is the highest point
in the state. This mountain has been the source of Harlan County's economic history as a
major coal producing region in the state and nation since the early 1920s.
Harlan is a two-hour drive from Knoxville, Tennessee, and a three-hour drive from
Lexington, Kentucky.
Committed to quality
Harlan ARH Hospital is fully accredited, on a voluntary basis, by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
(JCAHO). In 1998, Harlan ARH Hospital was also recognized by HCIA and The Health Network
as a recipient of the 100 Top Hospitals award.
