ARH Hospital Labs Receive Accreditation from College of American Pathologists

The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to labs at Harlan ARH, Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center, McDowell ARH, Middlesboro ARH, Morgan County ARH, Whitesburg ARH, Summers County ARH and Tug Valley ARH Regional Medical Center based on results of recent on-site inspections as part of the CAP Accreditation Program.

ARH lab directors were recently informed of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided at their facilities.

“Receiving this CAP accreditation means lab staff at these ARH hospitals consistently performs to the highest standards set by one of the leading accreditation agencies in the world,” said Larry Johnson, ARH Laboratory Administrator.

With this recognition, ARH Hospital labs join the prestigious ranks of the more than 7,700 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

“I congratulate our ARH hospital laboratory staff for their commitment to provide the highest quality standards for our clinicians and their patients,” stated Johnson.

The U. S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program.

During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record and overall management.
ARH is a not-for-profit health system operating 11 hospitals in Barbourville, Hazard, Harlan, Hyden, McDowell, Middlesboro, West Liberty, Whitesburg and South Williamson, Ky. and Beckley and Hinton, Wv., as well as multi-specialty physician practices, home health agencies, home medical equipment stores and retail pharmacies.
