Publication of Standard Charges

In the FY 2015 IPPS/LTCH proposed rule and final rule (79 FR 28169 and 79 FR 50146, respectively), CMS noted that section 2718(e) of the Public Health Service Act, which was enacted as the part of the Affordable Care Act, requires that each hospital operating within the United States, for each year, establish (and update) and make public (in accordance with guidelines developed by the Secretary) a list of the hospital’s standard charges for items and services provided by the hospital.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on August 2nd published its final inpatient prospective payment system, or IPPS, rule (pages 2135-2142) for federal fiscal year 2019. The IPPS rule contains a transparency provision that will be effective January 2, 2019.

*Prices may vary for some services due to incremental charges dependent on patient and provider requirements, and may be estimated upon request.
