CERTIFIED SKILLED NURSING/ SWING BED & ACUTE REHABILITATION
Swing bed or certified skilled nursing is a level of inpatient care that provides patients with skilled nursing services or skilled rehabilitation services.
The ARH therapeutic atmosphere assists patients with self-care and helps them to work toward independent function. We can help patients improve their strength and gain optimal independence to return home.
Our swing bed program is certified in accordance with federal, state and local regulations. Patients are admitted through a referral from their attending physician.
MULTI-DISCIPLINARY CARE APPROACH
Our expert care team works with qualified patients to create unique multidisciplinary treatment plans. Both levels of care are performed under the supervision of a physician, a registered nurse, a licensed physical and occupational or speech therapist. Daily skilled services are provided on an inpatient basis.

SWING BED/CERTIFIED SKILLED NURSING SERVICES
Inpatient Care for people who need:
- Wound care
- Long Term IV Antibiotic Therapy including patients with history of substance abuse that need IV antibiotic therapy in an observed setting with Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) line. The typical length of stay is approximately 6-8 weeks for antibiotic therapy.
- PT/OT to help with mobility, including trauma patients or patients recovering from hip fractures or stroke, who are in the midst healing, who are well enough to be discharged from an acute setting, but not well enough to go home w/Home Health Care. Patients receive therapy for up to 2 hours daily and a typical stay is approximately 4 weeks.
- Speech Therapy for swallowing and language capabilities
- Respiratory Therapy including those who have had a tracheostomy.
- Temporary Nutrient Care for those with Dobhoff tubes (tubes inserted through the nose for temporary nutrient delivery). In some circumstances, we provide care for patients with long-term feeding needs, if a peg tube has been placed.
- Recovery from Bariatric surgery up to 350lbs.
ACUTE REHABILITATION SERVICES
Acute Rehabilitation is similar to our Swing Bed Program except:
- Patients receive therapy for approximately 3 hours each day.
- A typical stay is approximately 10-14 days.
- Acute Rehab admits patients who need Hemodialysis.
- Acute Rehab treats patients who need a higher level of nursing care and therapy than swing bed care while recovering from trauma, hip fractures or stroke.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Patients have been admitted to the hospital as an inpatient for at least (3) consecutive midnights within 30 days prior to the swing bed admission.
- Patients are being treated for the same condition for which they were treated in the hospital.
- Patients are admitted through a referral from their physician and must meet eligibility requirements.
- Patients may remain as long as they have goals to obtain and will benefit from rehabilitation, IV therapy

If you or your loved one are having orthopedic or other surgery services, are recovering from a stroke, need additional IV antibiotics or various other medical services that could require continued inpatient medical care, please ask your nurse, social worker, or physician about our swing bed program.
