LEXINGTON, Ky. – Appalachian Regional Healthcare recently appointed Tammy Allen to serve as the Designated Institutional Officer (DIO) for ARH Graduate Medical Education.
Allen, who began her ARH career in 1995, has worked with the program since its inception in 2018, serving first as the institutional/program coordinator and most recently as the associate DIO.
ARH Chief Medical Officer Dr. Maria Braman said she believes Allen is the perfect person for the position.
“Tammy Allen is one of the smartest, most hard-working people I have ever met,” she said. “She has shown dedication and commitment to ARH and its mission over her three decades of service. Tammy has excelled in every role that she has had, and I am confident she will continue to excel in her new position as well.”
Prior to beginning work with the GME program, Allen served ARH through roles in human resources, collections, legal affairs, and medical affairs.
She said it was her 17 years in medical affairs that helped prepare her for the ARH GME Program.
“I collaborated with leadership in various areas, including pharmacy, physicians, credentialing, nursing, quality and care management,” she said. “I learned so much during that time and I’m very grateful for that experience, and for the support of Dr. Braman.”
As DIO, Allen is responsible for ensuring ARH’s GME programs are compliant with requirements set by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
She said she is excited for the new challenge.
“I am deeply appreciative of the opportunity to lead our Graduate Medical Education Office,” she said. “The residency program was built from the ground up. It has been a remarkable journey, and I look forward to watching it continue to grow.”
