Uterine (Endometrial) Cancer
More than 90% of uterine cancers occur in the endometrium. The number of people diagnosed with endometrial cancer is increasing. Uterine cancer is the fourth most common cancer for women in the United States.
What are the Risk Factors?
The risk factors include:
Older than 50.
Obesity (an abnormally high, unhealthy amount of body fat).
Take estrogen by itself (without progesterone) for hormone replacement during menopause.
Trouble getting pregnant.
Had fewer than five periods in a year before starting menopause.
Take tamoxifen, a drug used to. prevent and treat certain types of breast cancer.
Have close family members who have had uterine, colon, or ovarian .cancer
What are the Symptoms?
Symptoms of uterine cancer include:
Pelvic pain or pressure
Post-menopause bleeding
Abnormal bleeding
How Can I Prevent Uterine Cancer?
Maintain a healthy weight, being physically active, and by taking progesterone if you take estrogen.
